Route description

This route begins in Velika Gorica at the parking lot  1 . Head down Pleška Street to the intersection with Rakarska Street, cross the intersection and continue along Franje Lučića Street. At the intersection, there is a crucifix on the left hand side. About 50 m from the intersection, turn left onto Vjekoslava Majera Street, and then take the first left onto Tina Ujevića Street  2 . Turn left between house numbers 36 and 38 onto the meadow path towards Čiče Lake. The meadow path is about 700 m long. At point  3  , at 2 km mark, paved road begins. Turn right across the small bridge onto the road, on your left is Čiče Lake. At theOn the road toward Bukevje 2.7 km mark, prior to joining the main road Velika Gorica – Sisak, turn left, and after 200 m you will be on a gravel road, then a meadow path along the shore of Čiče Lake  4  . At the 4 km mark, the paved road begins again on Velikogorička Street, here turn left towards Novo Čiče. This road is quite busy so take caution. To the right of the road is a cemetery with a chapel  5  . At the intersection of Velikogorička and Ščitarjevska Streets in Novo Čiče, turn left onto Ščitarjevska Street in the direction of Lazina Čička. At the 7 km mark at the Y intersection near the Chapel of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus in Lazina Čička, turn right. The more heavily travelled road is to the left. After 800 m, you will reach an intersection where you continue riding straight. Ride along the main road about 1.5 km to the Y intersection where you will continue to the right, following the signs for Ribnica.

At the 9.6 km mark at the Y intersection, cross the small bridge and turn left. 200 m further on, continue to the right along the main road. You will pass a sign for Mravograd, which leads to the village Mravci to the left of the road. Pass through Ribnica, and the route continues straight to point  6  at the intersection with the busy road from Jagodno. Here you need to turn left for Bukevje. To the left of the main road is a gravel turnoff for the village Perenski, continue to the right along the road. At the 12.8 km mark at the Y intersection, continue left along the main road. The road to the right leads to the settlements of Davor, Mirešići and Marekovići. Cross the two small bridges along the road. At the Y intersection where the light red and blue bicycle routes cross, continue riding straight along, and 500 m further at intersection  7  at the 14.3 km mark of the route, turn left in the direction of Bukevje and Pilana Petko. The wide, straight road, which is part of both the light red and blue routes, leads to the banks of the Sava River and Bukevje. To the left and right of the road are the vast Posavina plains and the scattered houses. Turn left towards Gornje Bukevje at the Sava embankment and the Sava café in Bukevje at point  8  . To the left of the road is a corn field, and in the distance you can see Mt. Medvednica. About 1 km after the intersection, on the left you will see the Church of St. Anthony of Church of St. Anthony of Padova in BukevjePadova in Bukevje and the parish court. Next to the church is the renovated elementary school which dates back to 1911. At about the 18.9 km mark of the route, on the right hand side is a row of poplar trees, and according to the legend this path lead to the manor of the Zlatarić family, built in the typical noble style in wood. Today only remnants are visible. About 1.5 km further, you will enter into the village of Sop Bukevski, here continue straight along the paved road. To your left are lovely views of the fields and Posavina plains. There are several well preserved wooden homes of traditional architecture on the left side of the bank.

At the 20.7 km mark, a gravel road begins which continues to lead you down the riverbank. On the one side are old houses, on the other side old grass, willows and backwaters of the Sava River. This is an empire for many flocks of ducks and geese you will commonly see, as well as the occasional fisherman. Geese may hiss and occasionally run after you. Keep your riding speed moderate and watch out for the feathered residents of these areas while you pass through a large, white flock which is slowly waddling along the Sava River embankment. At the 22.7 km mark, you will pass through Zablatje Posavsko, and a gravel road approaches from the right, but just continue straight along the bank. One km further and you will see the entry sign for Strmec Bukevski. From this part of the embankment, you will again have a lovely view of Mt. Medvednica before you. Only 1 km further from the entry sign is the lake, there is a backwater of the Sava River which is a favourite place for local fishermen. On the occasional weekend, this sleepy Posavina region awakens with a sports fishing competition. Near point  9  at about 25 km from the route starting point, the embankment is no longer as charming as the views end. On the left side, everything is grown over. Turn left and leave the embankment. Turn right on Posavska Street. The paved road begins. Cross the intersection of four roads and continue straight along the road through the valley. After the peaceful embankment, it is again necessary to be cautious in traffic, as there is always the possibility of car traffic. Pass the entry sign into Lekneno and ride along Posavska Street.

Roof along roadAt the 28 km mark is the intersection 10 where the route turns left and immediately enters into Črnkovec. We propose you turn right here onto turnoff  B  which takes you 4.1 km (in one direction) to Ščitarjevo and the Andautonia archaeology park, and the parish Church of St. Martin the Bishop. This turnoff route is a combination of paved and gravel road surfaces. In order to continue the circular bicycle route, turn left through Črnkovec all the way to intersection 11 at the Zrinski Bistro where you will turn left, cross the bridge and continue in the direction of Kobilići. At the 30.2 km mark is the Y intersection. Continue to the right as the left road heads for Novo Čiče. Pass the centre of Kobilići at the 31.7 km mark, by the chapel of Our Lady of Carmel. Exactly 1 km from the exit of Kobilići, you will reach the intersection by the old airfield. Cross the runway and continue straight towards Rakarje. At the 33.5 mark, pass the Y intersection with the crucifix on the left side continuing straight, and in 1 km you will enter into Velika Gorica by the Posavina tavern, turn right onto Pleška Street. Some 500 m ahead, you will pass by the accommodation facility and bistro "Pleška". You will soon arrive at the parking lot, somewhat tired and satisfied after this 35.5 circular route. Think back once again to all the splendours of riding through the valleys criss-crossed with windy streams and rivers which flow into the Odra River, and the parts of the Orle municipality along the Sava River, the Sava backwaters and the white flocks of geese and ducks, and finally the ride to the "cradle of the City of Zagreb", as the Roman settlement of Andautonia is popularly called.
