Across
the Sava river by ferry
This
diverse bicycle route, rich in tourist attractions, begins
from the parking 1 in the centre of Samobor, the most renowned tourist town in Zagreb County. After you finish preparations
and once again examine the entire route over a drink in
one of the lively bistros on the banks of the Gradna River,
start along the parish Church of St. Anastasia, the patron
saint of the town of Samobor. Head across Samobor's romantic
main square, Kralja Tomislava Square, next to the Livadić
Hotel and then straight along Šmidhenova Street, all the
way to Bregana. Šmidhenova Street to Bregana changes its name to Ulica Josipa Jelačića Street
and then Bistrac. 4.2 km from the starting point, there
is an intersection where you can turn left to go to Otruševac
and Grgosova Špilja, which is also the turnoff for the
Instruktor bike service. Turn right at intersection 2 in Bregana, 5.3 km from the start of the route. 3 From the overpass the International Border Crossing Bregana is visible to your
left. 4 At the 8.5 km mark, not far from the ferry is the "Dva ribiča" inn. The ferry crossing is a real rarity these days, and in that sense is a special experience that is
remembered, while the fare is only symbolic. If the ferryman
is not on the ferry, contact him by telephone or check and give notice beforehand. After the ferry crossing, the route continues left along the gravel trail towards Prudnice. 5 At the 11.8 km mark, the trail emerges onto the asphalt road. 6 On the right hand side of the road is the “Pliva” factory. On turning from route $ , to the left of the road, head towards two smaller gravel pits, where sand swallows
nest. The ride through the lower part of the Brdovec district
gives time for a rest to enjoy the views of the Medvednica
slopes. At the 13.8 km mark, at the shrine to St. Anthony
the Hermit (Antun Pustinjak), turn right and continue straight
toward Savski Marof. 7
On the
main road, at the 15.2 km mark of the route, there is the
Januševec tavern on the left hand side, which is suitable
for a short rest and refreshment. 8 Before entering into Marija Gorica, it will be necessary to overcome three hills,
spread along the route very well, with sufficient time
for a short break. 9 At the 21 km mark, in Marija Gorica, the home of the writer Ante Kovačić, we recommend a rest and refreshment at
the Ladanjski Raj inn, on the rise to the right of the
road, with a fantastic vista over the entire region and
offering homemade specialties, but also take a look at
the valuable parish Church of the Appearance of the Blessed
Virgin Mary. On turning from route B , the trail leads to the town of Kraj Donji, which has one beautiful country-house
that is a part of the tourist region but is also the border
crossing. 10 From Vidikovac Street, to the left is a vista of the hilly Marija Gorica landscape,
the Sutla River valley and the neighbouring Slovenska Vas.
Cross the intersection with the access road, note the crucifix
and continue straight across the road, and then turn right
after 50 m to a steep uphill, towards the Chapel at Marija Magdalena. 11 At the route's 24 km mark, its highest point, treat yourself to a well deserved
rest and indulge in the splendid views on all sides. Breathe
in the splendours of the Marija Gorica, Dubravica and Pušća
regions! On the continuation of your ride, take note of
the steep downhill after which you sharply turn to the
left and then head straight through the valley. 12 At the intersection itself, the Tri Platane tavern is on the left side of the
road. At the 26.8 km mark, on turning from road C to the
left and an easy uphill ride past the sanctuary, we recommend
that you look over the parish Church of St. George (Jurij)
and the Chapel of the Mother of God of Čislav (Majka Božja
Čislavska) in Donja Pušća. Both of these sacral buildings, situated high on the rise above the district
centre, give the town and the Pušća region a special charm
and a view recognised from afar. On return to the main
road Pušća – Zaprešić, just continue straight to the point 13 Between points 13 and 14, it is necessary to take care due to much heavier traffic.
At the
route's 31.8 km mark, you pass by the Equestrian club and
the Trajbar team restaurant on the right side of the road,
which is also recommended for a shorter rest, while only
700 m on, the route leads to the left, over the main road
into the beautiful Novi dvori Jelačićevi park forest complex
in Zaprešić. Begin the ride through the complex by entering the park from the main road,
near the neo-Gothic mausoleum of the Jelačić family and
exit it via the main park lane, near the Matija Skurjeni
Museum. 14 Arrive at point 15 via Mokrička Street. At 1/B Pavla Lončara Street, to the left of the intersection,
you can find the Vajt Prom bicycle service shop. Continue
straight along the sanctuary all the way to point 16. Some 400 m after the railroad, at the route's 36.5 km mark, arrive at the end
of the asphalt road and start on the gravel trail. From
here to point 16, attention needs to be paid to orientation, since during the ride through the
fields on the way to the Sava River, there are many field
trails branching off. Turn right at the 37.7 km mark at
the Y intersection, right again at the 38.8 km mark at
the intersection, and turn right once again 200 m further
on. At the 39.7 km mark, you should have blissfully reached
point 17. If the ferryman is not on the ferry, contact him by telephone. During periods of high water on the Sava River, the ferry does not operate!
On the Sava's southern side, in the suburb of Medsave, the paved road begins once again, ride along it to point 18. At the route's 42.2 km mark, pass by the SRC Celine Samoborske and the school
on the right side of the road, while 900 m further on,
you reach the overpass and point 19. From point 19 to point 20, ride along the main road through the suburb of Gradna, towards Samobor, while the view of the Samobor mountains and the bell tower
of the parish Church of St. Anastasia extends before you.
Pass by the Fotokemika and Chromos factories. 20 After carefully crossing point 21, take Zagrebačka Street to the intersection of Perkovčeva and F. Ivanščaka streets,
turn right across the Gradna river, to the route's starting
point.
